Curriculum

Our orchestra program offers students more than just the technical skills of playing an instrument. It fosters a deep sense of connection, collaboration, and shared growth. As students create music together, they learn discipline, self-expression, and the importance of working in harmony with others. Music allows them to connect across cultures and boundaries, developing a global awareness while strengthening empathy and social responsibility.

We prioritize critical thinking and creativity, offering a balanced curriculum that supports both academic success and personal growth. Through performances, rehearsals, and community outreach, students engage deeply with their peers, fostering strong relationships built on mutual respect and teamwork.

Orchestra is more than just an extracurricular. It’s an opportunity for students to experience the powerful impact of shared music-making, while also gaining valuable life skills that will benefit them well beyond their school years. Our program shapes students into confident, thoughtful individuals who are prepared to navigate an increasingly connected world.

Dear Orchestra Family,

Welcome to CCAS Orchestra. Our dedicated students come together, each playing their unique part to create a harmonious and inspiring musical experience. Since our humble beginnings, Cornerstone orchestra has grown not only in talent but in the values we uphold and the power of music to bring hope.

In the summer of 2021, during the height of the pandemic, our orchestra faced the challenge of competing for the first time, and their hard work paid off with a 3rd place victory. This accomplishment deepened our understanding of togetherness and inspired us to donate uniforms to the Zambia Sepo Mission Choir, reflecting our desire to spread hope through music.

Now, in 2024, we’re thrilled to bring this vision full circle as the Zambian choir joins us on stage for our annual concert. The opportunity to make music together, sharing hope and joy across cultures, is a powerful reminder of the incredible impact that music can have.

We invite you to explore the stories, achievements, and passion of our orchestra as they continue to grow and inspire through the universal language of music.

Through the power of music, students don’t just learn a language; they experience the profound value of communication. At CCAS, we believe that mastering English or any other language is not merely a path to college but a gateway to deeper learning and meaningful connections.  Music, however, is a universal language. Whether performing on stage or practicing with peers, students learn how music transcends borders, inspiring others and sharing emotions that words often can’t express.

Classical music, in particular, offers invaluable lessons in both discipline and communication. In learning the precise, rule-bound nature of classical compositions, students gain freedom through structure, understanding that mastery comes from respecting the rules. The experience of performing in an ensemble teaches them to listen closely to others, synchronize with their fellow musicians, and work as a cohesive unit. What may seem like a challenge: playing in harmony, staying in sync, and pausing when it’s not their turn, becomes a rewarding experience of shared effort and mutual understanding. Those who once found group communication difficult learn, through the art of ensemble, the beauty of living and thriving in harmony with others.

The pandemic reminded us all of the essential need for connection. As face-to-face interactions became scarce, the value of meaningful communication became ever more apparent. In a world where texting has often replaced talking and social media has substituted genuine eye contact, music remains a vital means of true connection. For students, performing in an orchestra offers not only a chance to improve their musical skills but also to reconnect with their peers, to communicate beyond words, and to remind audiences of the very essence of what it means to be human.

As we continue to foster this rich musical environment, we are committed to helping each student discover how music can bridge divides and unite people. In the orchestra, they don’t just play music. They create harmony, model collaboration, and inspire connection. And in doing so, they become a reflection of what it means to be truly connected in our world.

Join us, and be part of a program where music becomes the universal thread that binds us together, one note at a time.
